The reason people don't appreciate Bitcoin is that they don't really understand their fiat

That's it really, It took me a long time to understand how fragile and corrupt the existing system is to appreciate Bitcoin's value proposition.

Bitcoin ATM Operator Indicted in New York Allegedly Running Illegal Business Attracting Criminals

A bitcoin ATM operator has been indicted in New York for running an illegal business “marketed towards individuals engaged in criminal activity.” The district attorney in charge described: “Robert Taylor allegedly went to great lengths to keep his bitcoin kiosk business as secret as possible to attract a clientele that would pay top dollar for anonymity.”

Operator of 46 Bitcoin ATMs Charged

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr. announced Wednesday that Robert Taylor has been indicted “for operating an illegal bitcoin ATM business that he marketed towards individuals engaged in criminal activity.”

The announcement states:

Taylor operated bitcoin kiosks in at least 46 locations in New York City, mostly in laundromats, as well as locations in New Jersey and Miami.

Between 2017 and 2018, the 35-year-old “converted more than $5.6 million of his customers’ cash into bitcoin while charging a fee of between 10% and 20%,” the district attorney detailed.

Taylor is charged “with multiple counts of operating an unlicensed money transmission business, criminal tax fraud in the third degree, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.”

Bragg described, “Robert Taylor allegedly went to great lengths to keep his bitcoin kiosk business as secret as possible to attract a clientele that would pay top dollar for anonymity,” elaborating:

As the use of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin proliferate, they continue to attract a wide range of bad actors who are hoping to evade law enforcement.

The announcement further notes:

In total, the search warrants resulted in the recovery of $250,000 in cash from Taylor’s apartment, as well as 20 bitcoin ATMs containing $44,000 in cash.

Forensic analysis showed that more than $5.6 million in cash was deposited into Taylor’s bitcoin ATMs between September 2017 and November 2018. More than $590,000 in fees were collected and approximately $160,000 were deposited into Taylor’s personal bank accounts.

However, Taylor only reported an income of approximately $3,000 on his 2017 tax returns and a loss of $140,000 on his 2018 tax returns.

In addition, his business did not have a money transmission license or a virtual currency business license (Bitlicense) from the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS). It is also not licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

Senator Ted Cruz blasts Elizabeth Warren and Justin Trudea for opposing Bitcoin. "The Left hates Bitcoin because they cant control it"

Ted Cruz dragged Bitcoin into the highly publicized CPAC political rally by mentioning how censorship proof it was during the Canadian "Freedom Convoy" incident

Cruz had words for everyone from Justin Trudeau and Elizabeth Warren to even the Chinese Communist Party for opposing Bitcoin because of a desire to control the financial freedom and civil liberties of people.

"One of the reasons im Bullish on Bitcoin and on crypto is because it is decentralized and not controllable"

He then proceeded to read the now infamous letter from the Nunchuk bitcoin wallet company to the Canadian Government that said they are unable to freeze accounts because that is how decentralization works. "When the Canadian dollar becomes worthless, we will be here to serve you, too"

While politicians will always use any tool to get back at the opposition, it is important to remember that Bitcoin isnt Anti or Pro anyone. Lets try to not get swept off by partisan politics.

Kraken Rant

Three of my top priorities in a crypto exchange are security, support and low fees.

I have found that kraken is the best option with these priorities in mind. I’m able to use my Yubikey on the mobile app, the fees are .25%-.50% and support is top notch. However, there is one thing keeping me from moving my all of my assets and dropping coinbase pro completely and that is their lack of ACH deposits.

Im located in the US and I have two options when purchasing through Kraken.

1) Wire transfer which for me personally involves calling my bank and has a fee associated with it so it’s overall an inconvenience .

2) Purchase crypto directly through my bank account. This has a 1.5% fee and you cannot set buy or sell orders.

How is it that every other exchange, even the shitty ones have ACH deposits but one of the best exchanges still does not have this feature. I have been jumping through hoops to fund my Kraken pro account.

I purchase XLM on coinbase pro on my desk top (because coinbase pro doesn’t allow security key feature on mobile). Transfer XLM in Kraken pro and convert to USDC/USD which is a taxable event. I’m then able to purchase crypto as I please on Kraken Pro. Doing this isn’t difficult but just feels so 2014.

Kraken please add ACH deposits so I can finally use an exchange that has everything I want/need.

Is it better to have a 2-coin or a 10-coin crypto portfolio?

Which do you think is a better idea for the long term? For a while I thought that BTC was all I really needed. But then ETH started to seem like it was definitely also a crucial coin to hold. So just the two seemed like enough. But now I am thinking it might be better to have a 10-coin portfolio that is still heavy on BTC and ETH but also casts a wider more diverse net by including 8 more well known coins. But then I wonder if I would just be watering down my BTC/ETH investment with coins that are way less likely to succeed. It seems some people go with one style or the other and I am not sure which is the best way to go.

Also, depending on which you pick, what do you think of my selections?

TWO COIN:

  1. 70% BTC
  2. 30% ETH

TEN COIN:

  1. 36% BTC
  2. 16% ETH
  3. 6% MATIC
  4. 6% SOL
  5. 6% DOT
  6. 6% AVAX
  7. 6% LRC
  8. 6% LINK
  9. 6% ADA
  10. 6% ALGO

Three African Countries Plan to Adopt Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Solutions

Three African countries — namely Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the Republic of Congo — are reportedly planning to adopt cryptocurrency and blockchain solutions powered by The Open Network (TON). Separately, Cameroon is considering issuing a national stablecoin that is based on the same blockchain network.

Phased Adoption of the Solutions

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is reportedly considering issuing a national stablecoin that is built on blockchain, a statement released by The Open Network (TON) has said. In addition, the DRC, along with Cameroon and the Republic of Congo, are planning to adopt cryptocurrency and blockchain-based solutions powered by the TON.

According to TON’s statement, the announcement of the blockchain entity’s plan to deliver these solutions follows its successful engagements with each of the three countries. Adoption of TON’s crypto and blockchain solutions by the three countries will be phased, the statement suggested.

Democratizing the Financial System

Commenting on the possibilities of his country’s potential partnership with TON, the Republic of Congo’s Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, Léon Juste Ibombo, said:

The Republic of the Congo has been on this path for a number of years, having encouraged and witnessed the widespread adoption of mobile payments across the country. This is the next step in that journey and we believe that TON is the right partner to facilitate this. This will be an invaluable, practical instrument for the growth and creation of wealth, both for the government and our people alike.

Echoing similar sentiments, Ibombo’s counterpart from the DRC, Désiré Cashmir Eberande Kolongele, spoke of his country’s pride in taking this step. He said the issuing of the stablecoin democratizes “access to our financial system for millions of unbanked and underbanked citizens.”

For his part, the Cameroonian Minister of Posts and Telecommunication, Minette Libom Li Likeng, said: “The partnership with TON can play a fundamental role in the digital ecosystem of Cameroon for boosting the payment solutions and financial inclusion via CAMPOST, the public postal operator.”
