"Too good to be true": take all information with a grain of salt

You don't know many times I got fucked in the ass as a beginner believing claims people say.

The most obvious examples are the big flashy "BITCOIN IS DUMPING" with toilet hole mouths or "[insert shitcoin here] PUMPING TO 100X!!!" on youtube thumbnails.

The less obvious is reddit, and back then, when I was new here, people are saying, "X is going to $500", and there's a ton of people shilling and being bullish, and I see it and I'm convinced, it could literally be bitcoin, and I can buy in. They say price will moon, but a day later my buy, it does the exact opposite.

An extreme case was last few weeks when everyone was spamming "doge to 1$" I saw so many newbies buy in from FOMO because it felt like they want to join the train, no matter how big or small to contribute. Some put in more. Well, nevertheless they got rekt.

And then there's PnDs. There's a big ol' sign on the daily discussions warning me on that. Never took part in one. Thank god I found this sub to find what it was.

But yeah. Moral of the story?

  • No one knows anything.
  • If it's too good to be true, it is.
  • Take all information with a grain of salt

Dyor and make your own judgements.

English is outdated!

English is sooo inefficient and slow, there's so many other languages that have bigger vocabulary, can communicate faster and convey ideas better!

Just because it's the number 1° language and most widespread in the world doesn't mean that another one won't substitute it! Network effect isn't that important!

Wait a couple years and you'll see english fall back behind to new and more update languages!

We’re all trying to make money here

So I’m noticing a lot of bashing of other coins/tokens going on, especially with the recent ADA surge, the not too long ago spike of BNB and the BSC tokens. Generally curious, why can’t we all just be happy for each other when someone here is making money and is in profit from their investments? If someone else’s crypto is making them money, no need to be salty about it. We’re all trying to make money here lol (besides the people in it for the tech). I sold my BNB back in 2017 for peanuts and even though I’m salty about that, I’m happy that people who dumped above $300 and even now made money. Besides the obvious pnd scams, let’s be happy for each other πŸ’―

Someone just deployed a smart contract based on the Tiananmen Square massacre on Binance Smart Chain

There has been contention in recent weeks between users, supporters of, and developers of the Binance Smart Chain and decentralized blockchains like Ethereum.

Proponents of decentralization aren't happy that CZ and Binance dishonestly promote their network as decentralized and 'DeFi', with a number of rumors about just how many of BSC's 21 nodes are operated by Binance (some say 11, others have said all 21, some say just a few).

After CZ has started bashing Ethereum and artificially infalted ETH gas fees by making all withdrawals pay 10-30% more than ETH gas station's 'highest' rate, it appears that proponents of decentralization have struck back.

They've launched a DeFi/farming app on BSC about the Tiananmen Square massacre, presumably to force CZ to remove it and end BSC's charade as a 'decentralized' blockchain.

Here is the smart contract address: https://bscscan.com/token/0xb79c9c73e8c7b4be7244e697e6bdb9f511208e9c

This is an interresting test of a 'decentralized' system to see whether Binance removes the smart contract or risks getting on the bad side of the Chinese government. I'm curious to see how BSC reacts and if they try to retaliate somehow.

This recent crypto correction has put me near 30% off the top of my portfolio... and this is by far the most money I’ve ever had in my life.

To the man at the grocery store...

Saw an elderly man (maybe 65-75) today at the grocery store in a Bitcoin shirt. Didn’t say anything the first time I saw him but told my wife and was like “adoption, that man gets it”.

Later seeing him at the checkout, I told him I love the shirt and he replied “keep stacking”. That’s why I’m a believer in Bitcoin bc if the older generation is starting to get on board and adapting then we have even more growth in our future, so from the guy at the store, Keep stacking.

Wanted to clear up some misinformation going around about Ada

I’ve been lurking around the sub a good amount today and everybody seems to be convinced Ada is some magical coin that will change the world and rocket to the moon. I am here to clarify some things about Ada.

Ada is actually a small town in Ohio where Ohio Northern University is located, home of the Polar Bears. They’re most well known for studying engineering and pharmacy. It’s a small private university where a year probably costs close to 50k per year so be prepared to sell an arm, a leg, and your soul to attend there if you don’t have a good scholarship or a trust fund.

Nearest major down is Lima. If you haven’t heard of Lima, you’re probably not familiar with Ohio. If you haven’t heard of Ohio, you probably aren’t from the states. Ohio is in the Midwest region. When I say Midwest I actually mean the mid-east when looking at the country as a whole on the map, but we call it the Midwest because geography is stupid.

If you have any additional questions or confusion about what Ada is, please ask away in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Reddit Moons have paid for my bills two months in a row now. I literally cannot believe Internet memes are covering living costs!

Sorry if this seems like a silly post but I am absolutely blown away that my comments and posts on this subreddit are paying my bills.

I tried to explain this to my parents and a couple of friends but they couldn't get their head around it, they still think I'm some crazy bitcoin investor who is gambling his money like a mad man.

The whole reddit moon concept is genius and I am truly impressed at how the community has handled it so far especially with the ability to vote on key issues and how they are distributed.

I guess all I can say is thank you and I hope they are all helping you as much as they are me!

Edit - people have asked what moons are so I have copied and pasted a summary i wrote a while back as a reply in the comments

Simplex and Skrill Broaden Cryptocurrency Convenience by Launching New Onramp Solutions

As enthusiasm for cryptocurrency mounts amid strong demand from retail and institutional investors, financial service providers Simplex and Skrill are building more inroads into the ecosystem, focusing on improving transactability and convenience. The digital payment services continue to expand the accessibility of the cryptocurrency landscape by backing direct token withdrawals and support for in-browser wallets.

Expanded In-Browser Wallet Capabilities

Simplex is partnering with privacy-oriented web browser Opera to provide cryptocurrency support for its in-browser wallet. The wallet will grant Opera users an easy onramp and offramp convert from fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat.

Opera, which holds the title of the first web3 and blockchain-ready browser, already has a native wallet that supports bitcoin, ethereum, and tron. Now with the Simplex onboard process, Opera is expanding the range of supported tokens and coins of its wallet while adding functionality for fiat deposits and withdrawals alongside low conversion costs.

Crypto Withdrawals Without an Exchange Account

Skrill’s latest additions allow users to withdraw tokens from their accounts directly to a bitcoin or ethereum (ETH) crypto wallet address, adding a new layer of fungibility.

Skrill already supports purchases of numerous tokens including litecoin, ZRX, tezos, stellar, dash, EOS, and others in addition to more than 40 fiat currencies. Besides the ability to buy and sell cryptos instantly, the latest withdrawal feature which is being rolled out in the European Economic Area (and the UK later on) will make it easier for users who prefer private custody over their coins for the long-term.

The new services help users expand their portfolios without the need for an exchange account. Eventually, the company plans to allow withdrawals of more cryptocurrencies to designated wallets as its offerings grow.

Keeping Up With the Paypals & Robinhoods

The latest moves by Skrill and Simplex echo a similar direction pursued by other major payment players and exchanges. After introducing buy, sell, and hold functionalities for U.S. customer accounts last fall, Paypal users will be able to fund purchases in cryptocurrencies from 26 million merchants in 2021.

The functionality will effectively allow customers to pay in crypto while merchants receive fiat currency, helping merchants avoid the persistent volatility that has prevented more widespread adoption. Moreover, the company has revealed that Venmo will also begin support for cryptocurrency transactions in 2021.

Not to be outdone by payment providers, online investment platform Robinhood recently announced that it’ll be offering crypto deposits and withdrawals soon. While the platform already allows users to buy and sell certain cryptocurrencies, notably dogecoin, there is only a fiat onramp and offramp for existing traders.

What do you think, when will Paypal finally get on board and fully ‘open up’ to crypto? Let us know in the comments section below.

Transferred my .95 Ether into my wallet and watched as the price soared. Figured, hey maybe it's a better idea to keep this into an exchange after all. Never know if I need to sell if the market takes a turn.

Transferred my .90 Ether to Binance and watched as the money rolled in, and oh boy, We're in bull season!

But then I'm seeing posts about how everyone should keep their crypto off of exchanges! So I figured, eh why not just put it back in my wallet, it'll continue to grow. So I transferred all .80 Ether back in...

Now the market is starting to correct, and I'm getting scared. Maybe if I put my Ether back on the exchange, I can get out with some sort of profit. Screw it, I send all .65 Ether back to the exchange.....

But the price is still dropping.... okay, okay, no more looking at the market prices, it'll come back... it'll come back...

Shit, Binance is having issues and showing 0 balances to anyone who has money on their exchange. Alright, I'll transfer my .50 Ether to my wallet, and that's it.

Hey, the price is starting to pick up again!

Reminder: trading crypto is as addictive as gambling

There have been many cases of people becoming addicted to investing. They’ve lost huge amounts of money in this way.

Trading in stockmarket or crypto is very similar to gambling on sports or sitting at a blackjacktable or behind the slots.

Volatile swings make crypto even more dangerous.

Everytime you buy some new coins, your brain releases a shot of dopamine.

Everytime you see green candles: dopamine.

Everytime you check your portfolio: dopamine.

Everytime you read cryptorelated words: dopamine.

But after a while, your brain needs more intense experiences before releasing the same dose of dopamine.

You continue visiting the reddit sub.

You continue checking your portfolio 50 times a day.

You invest more than you can afford to lose.

Your mood fluctuates.

Your behavior towards others changes.

Before you know, you change.

If you are experiencing problems, please take a step back, talk to someone you love or reach out for help if needed.

Jigstack DAO Acquires Icorating.com Platform to Strengthen Its Token Launch Pad Lemonade

Jigstack DAO Acquires Icorating.com Platform to Strengthen Its Token Launch Pad Lemonade

A decentralized finance (defi) protocol announced that it officially acquired an initial coin offering (ICO) listing platform. Jigstack, who bought icorating.com, will migrate all the platform’s assets to its Lemonade’s solution.

Jigstack’ Direct Email Database on Icorating.com

According to the announcement, the defi protocol, which acts as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), bought the website to boost its multi-chain token launch solution Lemonade.

Robert Weir, Jigstack’s COO, told news.Bitcoin.com that icorating.com acquisition is a “commercial trifecta for Lemonade” as they own “commercially relevant data, a database of over 30,000 active crypto investors.” In fact, they seek to boost exposure for projects launching through Lemonade.

In Lemonade, anyone can create a token sale in a matter of minutes, including adjusting the token lock sequences, vesting periods, and overall token distribution logistics, added Weir.

For projects launching on Lemonade, Jigstack COO commented:

They now have instant exposure to over 30,000 investors on Twitter and our direct email database and user traffic on the Icorating website.

Partnership With Ethereum Startup Polygon

Per the fees offered in the launchpad following the integration, the company says that it requires a flat 1% fee of the tokens, a 0.5% marketing bounty, and a 1% share of the tokens for the network vault.

Weir further added:

For the Lemonade platform, we just acquired one of the most comprehensive data sets in the crypto space. Specifically relevant for crypto-based fundraising and the investment space. Icorating.com has been operating as one of the biggest players in the crypto fundraising space since 2016. For investors, we’ve now significantly boosted our digital footprint and overnight injected tens of thousands of new investors into the Lemonade and Jigstack network.

Binance Suspends Ethereum and ERC-20 Token Withdrawals Before Quickly Reversing Course

Binance Suspends Ethereum and ERC-20 Token Withdrawals Before Quickly Reversing Course

The rollercoaster-ride in cryptocurrency prices on Monday was accompanied by Binance’s fresh restrictions for ethereum and ERC-20 tokens.

Ethereum Network Congestion Fingered as the Culprit for the Temporary Halt

Through the official Binance Twitter account, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges by volume, announced that it had “temporarily suspended withdrawals of $ETH and ethereum-based tokens” due to network congestion while underscoring that user funds were SAFU (Secure Asset Fund for Users).

Although Binance has since reversed its earlier decision and restored service in an announcement 37 minutes after its first tweet, traders were quick to pile on with the criticism. This latest move came amid a spike in Ethereum gas costs and a backlog that quickly escalated past 151,000 pending transactions. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao corroborated the stress on the system, noting that gas shot past “+1200” during the latest congestion.

Binance has already become a big target among the crypto community after being blamed for persistently high gas costs. Some claim that the congestion is a concerted effort on the part of Binance to attract more users to its Binance Smart Chain. However, given the tremendous transaction volumes and gas fees that Binance pays to the Ethereum network weekly, this claim is hard to corroborate

Binance Outage Underlines the Need to Scale

Yet, together with other recent events like the AWS problems that surfaced last week, this latest service outage begs the question as to whether centralized exchanges are capable of handling the latest torrent of investor flows. Moreover, the rollout of Ethereum 2.0 has brought to light similar scaling issues and whether already clogged blockchains can keep pace with advancing adoption.

For some market participants, the answer lies in liquidity aggregators. While service interruptions have dotted the cryptocurrency landscape for years and become commonplace during periods of serious volatility, aggregators that pool liquidity from centralized (CEX) and decentralized exchanges (DEX) have cobbled together a patchwork solution. Still, questions linger about the security of their custody along with blockchain interoperability.

Offerings like Orion Protocol have addressed many of these challenges by aggregating liquidity in a hybrid fashion from CEXs, DEXs, and now automated market-makers (AMMs). Aggregators are attempting to help decentralize the pressure and reverse the load issue strain felt by exchanges during peak periods while avoiding the custody question.

Still, for traders on centralized exchanges, load balancing issues and volatility remain a scourge for the ecosystem as the latest Binance outage underlines.

Do you think withdrawal suspensions will become the norm or a solution to network congestion will be found? Let us know in the comments section below.
